Jewelry export up 49% in second quarter this year

Rising gold prices failed to curb its demand in India. Gold buying has gained momentum with a good monsoon - which boosts agriculture output and income for farmers along with a strong rupee and would continue during the festive season. The economy, too is looking good.

In India, gold demand picks up between August and October, when consumers buy bullion for auspicious reasons to celebrate festivals, which peak with the Diwali festival in November. The wedding season in October-December will further add to increase in gold jewelry sales. Though, gold investors might wait a little for correction in the gold prices.

Export of gold jewellery from India, the largest consumer of the yellow metal in the world grew by 49 percent in the second quarter this fiscal.

According to the provisional statistics pertaining to the exports of gems and jewellery for the period of August 2010 as compared to the same period last year, the overall exports of gems and jewellery at US$ 3,155.14 million (Rs 14,693.49 crores) is showing a growth of 67.44% (61.31% in rupees term) as compared to US$ 1,884.30 million (Rs 9,108.72 crores) of same period previous year.

The overall export of cut and polished diamonds stands at US$ 2,301.77 million (Rs 10,719.32 crores) in the month of August 2010, a growth of 65.24% (59.19% in rupees term) as compared to US$ 1,392.99 million (Rs 6,733.70 crores) for the same period of previous year.

The provisional export of gold jewelry for the period August 2010 at US$ 527.04 million (rupees 2,454.44 crores) shows a growth of 49.61 percent (44.13 percent rupees term) over the comparative figure of US$ 352.27 million (rupees 1,702.89 crores) for August 2009. The figures clearly suggests that gold jewelry exporters are making good profits with the huge demand from across the globe.

The export of coloured gemstones at US$ 28.66 million (in rupees 133.48 crores) shows a growth of 14.05 percent (9.89 percent in rupees term) during August 2010 as compared to US$ 25.13 million (rupees 121.47 crores) in August 2009.

Meanwhile in the domestic market, figures from the World Gold Council (WGC) show gold jewellery demand in India grew 67 percent at 272.5 tonnes in the first half of 2010 and in value terms almost doubled to Rs. 45,700 crore. In all likelihood, the current price levels will test the consumers' seemingly boundless appetite for gold.

So, if you are a gold jewelry exporter and would like to make the most out of the gold jewelry buying spree that would continue during the festive and wedding season, put your gold jewelry designs online at tradeindia.com and get global business inquiries instantly.

Jewelry Exporters Finally Say All Is Well!

Jewelry exporters have something to get excited about! Recent reports say that UBM the world’s leading organizer of B2B jewellery and gem fairs is going to organise the Mumbai jewellery & gem fair. The first edition of the show will be held from 16-18 December 2011 in Mumbai. Industry insiders are elated not just because this gives the Indian players an opportunity to improve their network while marketing their products, it also acts as a symbolic gesture of the world jewelry industry that India's market is robust like never before and has bounced back strongly after the economic slowdown. Such shows usually attract over hundreds of trade exhibitors and thousands of trade visitors and provide a great platform to showcase one's products while serving as a common meeting ground for the buyers and the sellers.

KPMG in their last report confirmed that the jewellery industry is on the upswing. The KPMG study reveals that the largest jewellery market is the United States with a market share of 30.8%, Japan, India, China and the Middle East each with 8 - 9% and Italy with 5%. The study further predicts a dramatic change in the market shares by 2015, where the market share of the United States might get dropped to around 25%, and China and India may increase theirs to over 13%.

From the Indian point of view the Chinese threat remain intact with the Chinese jewellery industry gradually increasing their presence all over. China is also aggressively penetrating into its own domestic market by switching the focus on tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Experts say that during recession the industry only slowed down and did not actually go negative even at the height of the global recession, proving to be one of the few resilient industries that withstood the economic turbulence that hit the world over.

Jewelry exporters further confirm that retail shops in the United Kingdom and the United States have been expanding their fine jewelry sales, further boosting over-all sales. So, in short all seems well for the Indian jewellery exporters and the experts would be keeping an eye to see how well they perform in these favourable conditions.

Handicrafts Manufacturers anxious due to Commonwealth Mess

It seems like paul the octopus (who predicted the FIFA world cup results correctly) is in high demand once again. New delhi seeks his services badly to know if the commonwealth games would take place successfully or not? Sad that unlike our politicians he has retired and wouldn't make any predictions ever in the future.

Another aspect which has been overshadowed by the commonwealth mess has been the decline in the estimated influx of tourists to see the games. Forget the spectators, the organisers are now seen pleading hard to the athletes to turn up for the event. What could have been a golden opportunity for the government to put Delhi gloriously on the world map, has now bruised delhi's image to the unthinkable levels.

"We were told that nearly 1 lakh tourists will arrive apart from the athletes and officials which could have given our business a huge boost, however, now that the event itself is in the danger of being called off, all the plans and expectations of better business have gone for a toss." says one of the handicrafts manufactures.

The government still maintains that not all is lost and efforts are being made to stage the event smoothly. In case the heavy influx of tourists do arrive, there are still many places where in they can shop in peace without much security concern . As has been the trend in the past, tourist mainly gets attracted towards the handcrafted items like wooden handicrafts, brass handicrafts, silver handicrafts etc. The main places to shop, especially the handicrafts items are dilli haat, connaught place, janpath and state emporium houses.

Handicrafts suppliers mainly deal with wooden decorative items, furniture, jewellery, garments, wall hangings, marble handicrafts, paintings and metal handicrafts. The handicrafts items which are popular mainly amongst the tourists are wooden and brass handicrafts, brass statues, gods statue, brass decorative, statues of hindu goddess, european statues, enamelware, miniatures etc.

Most of the handicrafts manufacturers and suppliers had pinned their hopes on this mega event to recover from the economic slump and are now understandably worried with the turn of events.

As one of the handicrafts exporters sums up the general sentiment - "We sincerely want these games to happen successfully, it is good not just for our business but for the country as well. May be the media has exaggerated the mismanagement but now is the time to focus on the successful completion of these games."

So the big question everyone asking is - Can we pull it off ? Well, oct 3rd isn't far off and the next few days would determine whether New Delhi would be able to salvage its reputation or not !

Bhadohi Carpet gets GI Tag

In a major boost to the Indian carpet industry, the famed handmade carpet of Bhadohi has been granted Geographical Indication (GI). With this, it has joined the league of other GI tagged products like Pochampalli, Tirupati laddu, Darjeeling tea and Banarasi silk and brocade

In the past four months, the Registrar of Geographical Indications (GI) has granted GI tag to Bikaneri bhujia from Rajasthan, Guntur Sannam chilli, Gadwal sarees & Hyderabadi haleem from Andhra Pradesh, Nashik valley wine, Mahabaleshwar strawberry and Paithani sarees from Maharashtra, Kasaragod sarees and Kuthampully sarees from Kerala, Kinnauri shawl from Himachal Pradesh, and Sandur Lambani embroidery from Karnataka. (To see complete list, visit: http://ipindia.nic.in/girindia/)

The Bhadohi-Mirzapur is the biggest carpet manufacturing hub in India, engaging around 3.2 million people in the industry and exports carpets worth Rs 2,500 crore (approx) to other countries. The GI tag means that the carpets manufactured in nine districts of the region, Bhadohi, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Ghazipur, Sonebhadra, Kaushambi, Allahabad, Jaunpur and Chandauli would be tagged with 'handmade carpet of Bhadohi'.

According to the officials, the benefits of GI registration include prevention of unauthorised use of a registered GI by third parties, boost in export and economic prosperity of producers. Only an authorised user has the exclusive rights to use the GI tag for the goods.

GI tag will also allow carpets manufacturers and exporters from the region to take legal action against the infringement of the name of their unique product. No carpet produced in other regions or countries can now be sold in India under the tag of Bhadohi carpet.

Carpet exporters from the region believes that it would help in checking the migration of manufacturers and exporters to other states to establish their business, who use the name of this region for their products.

The granting of the GI tag will definitely benefit the carpet industry in the years to come and it is a major achievement for the carpet manufacturers and exporters in the Bhadohi region as this will also ensure increased visibility, demand and price for the handmade carpets from the region.

Garment Accessories Suppliers Planning Their Own Labels

"Business opportunities are like buses, there's always another one coming." - Richard Branson

The vibrant domestic market in India is throwing up unprecedented opportunities in the garment sector specially for the upcoming entrepreneurs. Some of the clothing manufacturers in India, who have been supplying goods to the reputed global garment and accessory retailers, are now toying with idea of launching their own brands. Few of the garment accessories suppliers sums up the general mood as “ The investors are willing, the policies are favourable and by all angels this seems like an idea whose time as come ! ”

Recent news report confirms the fact that the organised garment & accessories sector currently valued at around Rs 320 billion, is projected to increase upto Rs 900 billion (approx.) in just about next five years.

Garment accessories exporters are willing to take this risk though not at the cost of diverting their attention from exports."We will continue to export the same volume which we are doing right now, though wouldn't mind venturing into launching our brands through some foreign partnerships or tie-ups" says one of the garment accessories manufacturer.

Industry insider confirms that amongst the Indian apparel manufacturers, those who are firming up plans to launch new brands or expand existing brands include Mandhana Industries, Orient Craft, SP Apparels and the South India based Royal Classic Group.

These companies hope to attract overseas investors or forge a tie-up with global brands, in accordance with current government of India policy, wherein, 51 percent FDI is permitted in single-brand retail.

Garment accessories, including cloth, zippers, buttons, labels account for around 30% of the total garment sector. Garment accessories suppliers are an important cog in the wheel of the entire garment business chain. Any change in the supply demand cycle will certainly affect the big players and could benefit the buyers due to increased competition.

Globally the scenario isn't as rosy. The USA is just out of the slump and expectedly would take sometime before going aggressive again. In other developing countries like Bangladesh etc. the situation is more grim due to difficult working conditions and harder trade restrictions.

The Indian garment industry is one of the well organized sector in India, far from reaching its saturation thus giving ample scope of opportunities to both the new and existing players. Industry analysts are keeping a constant watch on the upcoming developments with their fingers crossed.

Jute Bags Exporters Now Banking On Green Activists

The golden fibre is finally finding its true place in our day to day lifestyle. The green activists crescendo is reaching its fever pitch highlighting the usage of jute products as an alternative to plastics, at least at the corporate and political level.

Recently, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit urged people to use jute bags while launching the 'Sheel Shera' project aimed at discouraging the use of plastic. The chief minister further stressed upon the need to use environment-friendly bags apart from bringing awareness on environmental issues.

Another initiative which is doing the rounds is from SULABH INTERNATIONAL, a well known civil society organisation . They too have launched a campaign to popularise biodegradable carry bags made of jute and paper in Jaipur. Sulabh's initiative has been very warmly received by the residents of Jaipur.

Globally too, the green activists are strongly pushing the use the jute bags specially in EU countries, where the use of single-use plastic shopping bags is now on decline. Eco-friendly, reusable bags are often made from jute cloth, also known as burlap in USA and other countries. At the corporate level, reusable bags are used as a fashion statement and symbolises their concern for the environment.

Jute bags exporters are certainly elated by such campaigns as it gives a push to their sales figures and they don't mind doing their bit by spreading awareness among the buyers. Experts say that jute is a very viable alternative to plastics etc. as it is long, soft, strong, heat resistant and can be spun into one of the most versatile natural fabrics.

In addition to above benefits the use of jute products also gives rise to jute cultivation which in turn play a vital role in increasing the fertility of the soil. By rotating with other crops such as rice and potatoes, jute acts as a barrier to pest and diseases and also provides a substantial amount of nutrients to other crops in the form of organic matter.

Jute bags suppliers further make their case stronger by stating that wholesale jute bags are not only strong and long lasting, they are also ideal to carry such items because the top of the bags have a very strong handle to distribute the weight evenly. Needless to say, these facts hardly leave any room for doubt that jute bags are sustainable and eco-friendly products and therefore, are ideal for green consumers who understand the critical state of our nature.

Indian SMEs can make use of the online marketing tools, b2b portals as a medium to market their products, give maximum exposure & visibility at the global level and find prospective buyers and importers from other countries as well. This will not only cut advertising costs but also ensures maximum reach to the buyers.

The areas in which India’s exports to the UAE are well diversified include gems and jewellery, engineering goods, tea, vegetables, fruit, spices, meat and its preparations, rice, textiles and apparel and chemicals, besides RMG cotton including accessories, man-made yarn, manufacture of metals, fabrics and made-ups, marine products, machinery and instrument and plastic products.

Tractor Manufacturers and Suppliers Await Another Peepli LIVE!

There is a huge divide between India shining and India suffering and very few cinematic attempts have been made to expose this harsh reality. Peepli Live - a comic satire on the state of farmers successfully highlighted the same and helped in creating some buzz around the pathetic conditions of our farmers. Over urbanization is slowly but surely killing our once famed agriculture industry and its repercussions are felt by each one of the stakeholders involved including the tractor manufacturers and suppliers. Statistics show that the demand for tractors and tractor spare parts was robust up till the mid 90s and thereafter it begun to decline gradually.

Even during this slump some of the well known brands like Balwan Tractors, Force Motors Ltd, Crossword Agro Industries, Eicher, Escorts , HMT Tractors, Mahindra Gujarat Tractor Limited, Mahindra & Mahindra have somehow managed to keep their profit margins alive amidst hope of sector's revival.

Tractor parts suppliers seem to have full faith in the Tractor Manufacturers Association (TMA) – the main representative body of the tractor manufacturers which realizes the urgency of the matter and is doing its best to drive government's attention to the current crisis.

The big question remains : What is ailing the indian tractors industry ?

Analysts say that, things have not been like this and the tractor industry has seen its share of bright and shiny phase in the past, though with over urbanization the scale has tilted in the other direction.

Industry insiders further reveal that the sale of tractors heavily depends on the robust growth of agriculture which has not been the case for last few years. The farming conditions and methods have not changed since ages. Adding to their misery, crop failure has become a routine due to ineffective fertilizers or infertile seeds. New technically advance tractors can not be built as it puts the burden of the increased overheads and many feel will not work in the already gloomy scenario.

A recent report highlighted the fact that the tractor penetration level in India is very low as compared to the world standards. Also the penetration levels are not uniform throughout the country. While the northern region is now almost saturated in terms of new tractor sales, the southern region is still under penetrated.

So what can revive the indian tractor industry ?

Many Tractor parts suppliers say that Indian youth at least those who have been in farming traditionally should take an active interest in farming and its new technology. They further add that more incentive is needed from the government for those who take farming as a full time occupation. Last but not the least efforts at the socio-economic level are required to create awareness about the sad state of Indian agriculture to force government's action before it gets too late. May be as someone said - a few more Peepli Lives.

Jute Products Manufacturers Hails Government's Support

There have been two big news stories for the jute products manufacturers which can bring a ray of hope for the otherwise ailing jute industry.

The first one is that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CEA) decided to reverse the Union textile ministry’s proposal for 25 per cent dilution in mandatory use of jute bags for packaging of food-grain and sugar. This is for the second year in a row that CCEA has turned down the proposal for dilution of the Jute Packaging Materials Act (JPMA). According to JPMA of 1987, it is mandatory for the government procurement agencies to pack foodgrain and sugar in jute bags.

Industry insiders think of this as a pre poll bonanza for the West Bengal. Jute Products Manufacturers hail this decision as the jute industry is labour-intensive and engages around 400,000 workers directly, while creating indirect employment for nearly 4 million farmers.

The second big story comes from Andhra Pradesh where in three jute parks under public-private participation have been sanctioned for the state. News reports further adds that an integrated jute park would come up at Sabbavaram, near Visakhapatnam on an extent of 200 acres with Rs.100-crore investment and two jute diversified product parks at Guntur and at Ibrahimpatnam in Ranga Reddy district under Jute Technology Mission.

Agencies add that the National Jute Development Board would release Rs. 7.5 crores towards creating infrastructure facilities in addition to the state government's share. It is expected that the parks would generate employment for up to 25,000 jobless youths.

Jute is the most important vegetable fibre second only to cotton; not only for cultivation, but also for various uses like in the sackings, carpets, wrapping fabrics (cotton bale) etc.

With the ever increasing concern over deforestation due to the war cry over global warming, jute is now being positioned as a viable alternative for the pulp and paper products. A noticeable trend has been the rise in demand of Jute bags in various promotional activities and campaigns at the corporate level.

As of now jute products manufacturers are breathing a sigh of relief mainly due to the increased support from the government and the gradual increase in demand of jute products worldwide. It would be interesting to see how long would the jute industry manage to flourish in the times to comes amidst tough competition from other sectors.

These days, due to strict rules and regulations animal horn suppliers take every possible precaution not to cause any cruelty towards animals and extract their horns in the most peaceful manner usually after an animal has died its natural death.

The history of human kind is filled of instances wherein they have derived immense pleasure out of animal hunting. In the past horned animals were hunted so that their mounted head or horns can be displayed as a hunting trophy or as decorative objects. However, as of now things have changed and the horn products are used for many other different applications.

Some people use it as a drinking vessel by removing the bone core and after cleaning and polishing. Historians have suggested that the shape of a natural horn was also the model for the rhyton, a horn-shaped drinking vessel. Another type of horn antelope horns are used in traditional chinese medicine. Some people use it in the form of horn buttons.

Other usages of horn products include (though not limited to) knife handles, revolver grips slab, clothing button accessories, blanks, natural horn toggles, raw natural horn spectacle frame, walking stick, fluted or twisted handles, bone fluted rolls, imitation antler stag or deer bone scale, jigged and dyed bone scale, smooth white bone, walking cane stick handle.

Extrusion Machinery Exporters Keeping Their Fingers Crossed

The universe is a machine where you have been placed, and like a machine the outcome can be known. Every battle has already been won or lost. All that is left is for you to choose your side.”

Introduction

As per Wiki, Extrusion is a process used to create objects of a fixed cross-sectional profile. A material is pushed or drawn through a die of the desired cross-section. The two main advantages of this process over other manufacturing processes are its ability to create very complex cross-sections and work materials that are brittle, because the material only encounters compressive and shear stresses. It also forms finished parts with an excellent surface finish.

Metals, polymers, ceramics, concrete and foodstuffs are few of the most commonly extruded materials.

Brief History

Joseph Bramah was the first to patent an extrusion process for the development of lead pipe. There were two steps involved in this process. The first step was pre heating the metal and the second step was to force the heated metal through a die through a plunger that was hand driven. Later on, in 1894, Alexander Dick gained success in expanding the extrusion process to brass and copper alloys.

Features Of Extrusion Process

There are number of benefits that the extrusion process offers over the other production processes. Till date, many extrusion machines have been developed and used to create objects having cross-sectional profile. The features of the Extrusion Process are as below:

  • Cost Effective

  • Minimizes the need of secondary machining process

  • Cross Section

  • Wide variety

  • Surface Finish

Main Types Of Extrusion Process

  • Hot Extrusion

  • Cold Extrusion

  • Warm Extrusion

Aluminium extrusion and Plastic extrusion are the most popular types of extrusion process undertaken by companies worldwide.

Many companies today undertake aluminium extrusion process to offer extruded products to thier end- buyers. Aluminium extrusions are popular across the globe because of the easy availability of the metal as well as its wide usage in several day to day applications .

Plastic extrusion process is primarily a polymer extrusion process that is used to create plastic profiles of various shapes and sizes. Extruded profiles made out of plastic extrusion process are utilized for various purposes in the major industries like electronics & light , electronic equipments industry, packaging industry etc.

The Parting Shot

Most of the Extrusion Machinery Exporters acknowledge the fact that their industry is making a comeback after the recent economic downturn. Extrusion Machinery Exporters are making a conscious effort to put their best foot forward with the help of latest technologies to tap the upcoming opportunities all over the world.

Surgical Disposables Exporters Optimistic Of Market Momentum

Even top caliber hospitals cannot escape medical mistakes that sometimes result in irreparable damage to patients - Carl Levin

As millions of surgical procedures are conducted across the globe, sterile hospital environment has acquired importance like never before. Reports say that around 25 % of the human deaths happens due to infectious diseases. Infection control is critical to any hospital's success. This realization has led to the increased focus on disposable or single use surgery equipments worldwide. The risk of contracting infection during and post surgery are quite high. Subsequently hospital staffers put disposable and sterile products as their top-most priority these days.

A broad classification of the surgical disposables will include gloves, drapes, face masks, gowns, scrubs etc. These are common products used by the hospital staffers for surgeries across the medical field. The wide spread use of surgical disposables ensures the prevention and transfer of harmful bacterias and on top of it limits the direct exposure to blood and blood borne pathogens.

It's a no- brainer that a single use device is more secure and infection free as compared to reusable one. There has been a rise in incidents of surgical site infections, respiratory infections in last few years. Governments, across the globe with the help of strict laws and regulations are trying to ensure that hospitals don't incur laxity on their part.

Most of the hospitals are not too keen to apply the latest technology in the use of surgical disposables due to the already high operational costs. Numerous researches are being done to come up with more effective yet cost effective surgical disposable equipments.

Overall, the market for surgical disposables is huge and has undergone impressive change in the last decade. One of the industry insider say that the surgical disposables market in central and eastern Europe is poised for strong growth as uptake levels will increase significantly over the next few years. The only factor that comes in the way of Indian companies trying to cash upon the upcoming opportunity is - Quality. Indian quality standards needs to improve a lot before they can think of projecting themselves as emerging market leaders.

Surgical disposables exporters agree that the development of the private health care market and the creation of greater awareness among patients and physicians with the help of educational initiatives will be the key to sustain market momentum. It would be highly interesting to see how long does Indian companies take before they make a mark of their own in the global market !

God Statues Exporters Seek Divine Intervention

You talk to God, you're religious. God talks to you, you're psychotic. - Doris Egan

Recent reports say that the environmentalists are urging the ganesha idol makers to go green on this ganesh chaturthi. In this festival the household idols are carried to the sea shore, where they are immersed into the seabed. Environmentalists don't have an issue with this concept, though they have a certain discomfort with the material used in the idol making. Usually plaster of paris is used to give the idol a robust look and shape whereas environmentalists insist on using clay and green paints.

This festival also give us an opportunity to take a quick glance on the statue making industry. In India gods and goddess statues are in great demand. These statues make up for 70% of the statues made in the india, just next to the politicians. Just like any other art form, sculpture industry thrives on its patrons. In the past Indian sculpture artists too depended on the royal patrons however with commercialization and corporate money being pumped into it, this industry is now breathing a new lease of life.

Why Gods Statues Are So Popular

As per ancient Hindu scriptures, god sculptures add to the well being of one's house and is also a great source of decoration. These statues are usually made up of marble, brass or wood. They are usually priced as per the material used and craftsmanship. Some of the most popular god statues include goddess Lakshmi statue, Marble religious statues, marble temples, marble temple of Ram Darbar, Jesus Christ statue, stone carving of Lord Ganesha etc. Out of these Lord Ganesha's statue is one of the most popular and common sculpture which could be found in almost all the Hindu household.

The Chinese Threat

God statues exporters specially from India and other Asian countries benefit from the fact that such talent is very costly in the west and with the help of internet these guys have been able to grab a torrent of orders from Europe and North America. Masons set themselves to mastering the needs of foreigners, and offer them sculpture as per their requirement at unbeatable prices.

China in its attempt to improve their market share, manufactures such statues in bulk at throw away prices and is threatening to put other sculptors out of work. Recession did slow down their pace a bit, though the signs of revival are for every one to see.
